You don’t have to be a professional writer to start publishing content on your Shopify store. Whether you're sharing product tips, company news, or customer stories — your blog is your voice, and the Magefan Blog App gives you the platform.

This guide will walk you through the process of writing your first blog post. No fluff, no complicated setup — just practical steps to help you publish confidently.

Let’s get into it.

Step 1: Access the Blog App

To get started, log in to your Shopify admin panel. On the left-hand side, click Apps > Magefan Blog.

You’ll now see the Blog Dashboard, which you can use to navigate your blog settings.

Let’s focus on writing your first post. Follow the steps described below or watch this short video.

Step 2: Create a New Blog Post

Click on the Posts tab in the Magefan Blog App menu. You’ve already got a few sample blog posts there. Review them and click the "Add New Post" button in the top-right corner to start creating.

This opens the post editor, where you’ll spend most of your time. It’s clean, intuitive, and packed with the tools you need.

Step 3: Add a Title and Content

Every blog needs a headline. Add yours in the Title field (1). Then move on to the Content box (2) — this is where the magic happens. Write your post using plain text, or format it using the built-in WYSIWYG editor.

Not sure what to write about? Consider starting with a how-to guide, product spotlight, or answers to common customer questions.

Step 4: Format Your Post

Use the editor toolbar to:

Add headings (H2, H3, etc.) for structure (1)
Make text bold, italic, or underlined (2)
Insert links (3) and bullet points (4)
Embed post contents (5) or other widgets

A clean structure makes your post easier to read — and easier to rank in search engines.

Step 5: Add Images and Media

Let’s be honest — nobody wants to read a wall of text. Add visuals to make your post pop.

Here’s how:

Click the "Insert Image" icon in the toolbar
Upload an image or paste an image URL (1)
Resize and align your image within the post (2)
Add alt text for accessibility and SEO benefits (3)

Images should support your message — not distract from it.

Step 6: Assign an Author

Scroll down to the Author dropdown and select the name of the person writing the post.

Want to add a new author? Head over to the Authors section in the app menu and click "Add Author". You can include their name, email, and even a short bio.

Step 7: Add Categories and Tags

Categories help organise your content. Click on the Categories and check the box(es) that apply. You can also add new categories if you haven’t created any yet.

Tags are optional but recommended — they help readers (and search engines) discover related posts.

Step 8: Optimise Your Post for SEO

Before you publish, scroll to the SEO section:

Customise the URL Key (keep it short and readable) (1)
Add a Meta Title (what shows in Google search results) (2)
Write a Meta Description (entices clicks) (3)
Preview how your post will appear in search (4).

Meta keywords are optional since Google no longer considers them for ranking, but you can still fill them out.

These fields help search engines understand and rank your content, and can improve your click-through rate in search results.

Step 9: Set the Post Status and Publish

Almost done! Choose the post status (1):

Aclive – live and visible on your blog
Draft – saved as a draft

When you’re ready, hit Save (2). Your post will automatically be published on your blog page.

Step 10: Check Your Work

Click the Preview button to preview how your post looks on the front end. Make sure:

Text displays correctly
Links work
Images look sharp
Formatting is clean
SEO settings are in place

Tweak anything that needs adjusting — and you’re done!

Let’s face it — nobody likes a messy blog. Especially not your readers. When someone lands on your site, they want to find what they’re looking for fast. Categories help make that possible.

They don’t just improve user experience — they help with SEO too. Search engines love well-structured content. Grouping your blog posts under clear, focused categories makes your entire site easier to crawl and more relevant in search results.

So let’s get your blog organized, shall we?

Why Blog Categories Matter

Before we dive in, here’s a quick snapshot of what blog categories can do:

Help visitors quickly find content they care about
Signal topic relevance to search engines
Make your site feel cleaner and more professional
Keep similar posts grouped together for binge-worthy browsing

If you want people to stay on your store’s blog, categories are a must.

How to Add a New Blog Category?

Creating categories in Magefan Blog is quick and painless.

Step 1: Open the Blog App

In your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Magefan Blog. Once you’re in the Blog App dashboard, click on Categories in the left-hand menu.

This opens the new category form, where you can define all the important details for your category.

Step 2: Name Your Category and Add a Description

Here’s what to add:

Title: Keep it short and clear. For example, “Recipes,” “Tips,” or “Behind the Scenes.”
Content: Add a description that will be displayed at the top of your category.

Step 2: Fill in the General Details

Include in Menu (1): Enable this option if you want the category to appear in your blog's navigation menu or sidebar.
Parent Category (2): Want to create subcategories? Select a parent category here. If this is a top-level category, simply leave this field empty.
Exclude from XML Sitemap (3): Enable this if you don’t want search engines to index the category page.

By default, categories are included in the sitemap to help with SEO. Only exclude them if necessary (e.g., for internal-only categories).

Position (4): This controls where the category appears in the category list on your storefront. The lower the number, the higher the position.
Template (5): define how your posts will be displayed within a category.

Step 3: Optimise for SEO

Before you publish, scroll down to the SEO section and fill out the following:

URL Key (1): This becomes part of the URL, so make it lowercase and use dashes instead of spaces. Example: behind-the-scenes
Meta Title (2): Shown in search engine results. It should match or be similar to your category title, with a keyword or two.
Meta Description (3): A short summary (around 160 characters) that describes what readers will find in posts under this category.
Meta Robots (4): change them only when necessary if you want to change how robots crawl and index yoru categories.

Once you finish, preview how your post will appear in search (5).

Step 4: Set the Category Status and Publish

Almost done! Choose the category status (1) and hit Save (2) once you’re ready.

Draft – saved as a draft

Assign Categories to Posts

Once your categories are created, assigning them to posts is easy.

Go to Posts → Edit any existing blog post or create a new one
Scroll to the Categories section under the editor
Check the boxes for the categories you want this post to appear under
Save your post

Done. Your blog post is now organized — and connected to other similar content.

Pro Tips for Using Categories Wisely

Don’t overdo it: 5 – 10 solid categories are often better than 20 scattered ones.
Be consistent: Assign categories based on post topic, not mood.
Think SEO: Use keywords in category names and slugs when it makes sense.
Use parent categories: If you publish a lot, nesting categories keeps things tidy.

Unfortunately, many conventional skincare products hide toxic additives that can disrupt hormones, clog pores, and irritate skin over time.

Let’s take a look at some of the most common harmful ingredients to avoid and why choosing natural alternatives (like tallow-based skincare) makes such a difference.

🚫 Aluminum

Often found in deodorants and some cosmetics, aluminum compounds block sweat glands to reduce perspiration. The problem? They can interfere with the body’s natural detox process and have been linked to potential hormone disruption.

Choose instead: Natural deodorants with magnesium, arrowroot powder, or baking soda that let your skin breathe.

🚫 Parabens

Used as preservatives, parabens (like methylparaben or propylparaben) mimic estrogen in the body and may interfere with hormone function. They’ve also been found in breast tissue samples, raising serious health concerns.

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) are foaming agents found in soaps and shampoos. They can strip away the skin’s natural oils, leaving it dry, tight, and irritated — especially for sensitive or mature skin.

Choose instead: Cold-processed soaps made with natural oils and butters that cleanse gently while nourishing your skin barrier.

🚫 Mineral Oil & Petroleum

These petroleum-derived ingredients may create a temporary feeling of softness, but they clog pores and prevent the skin from breathing. Over time, they can cause buildup and slow your skin’s ability to regenerate.

Choose instead: Moisturizers made from grass-fed tallow, beeswax, and plant oils — rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K to deeply nourish and heal.

🚫 PEGs (Polyethylene Glycols)
